SARNAK

SARNAK, organized in May 1995, has approximately 25 members, most of whom reside in the Tri-Lakes area (Saranac Lake, Lake Placid, Tupper Lake) in northeastern New York. Despite the team's home base in Northern NY, we will travel throughout the state and New England to help with search and rescue missions.

SARNAK is a community service organization that works with the NYS Department of Environmental Conservation and law enforcement agencies in searches, administering first aid and evacuating lost, stranded, sick and injured people. Members also are involved with community education projects, such as map and compass education and hiker safety and awareness.

SARNAK members are volunteers of all physical capabilities and skill levels. One-third of the members are New York State licensed outdoor guides. Many members are HAM radio operators and Emergency Medical Technicians. Members serve as active search participants or as valuable support service personnel (radio communications, member call-up, etc.).

If you see a SARNAK coin collection can, please remember who we are. If you would like to become a member of the team; if your business can assist or sponsor SARNAK; or if you know of a fundraising project that can benefit SARNAK, call us. Our financial obligations are met through donations from the public and local businesses. Our treasury must finance our legal and office needs, our educational projects, and our safety, search and extrication equipment needs.

As a service organization to the communities of the northern Adirondacks, we are also committed to education for our members and for the general public. You may have noticed articles in the Adirondack Daily Enterprise and Press Republican reporting our team and community training sessions. Our educational programs are generally announced in the media.

SARNAK is always looking to increase our membership strength. SARNAK members pay a nominal membership fee of $10.00 per year. We require active members to participate in one training session per month and a business meeting every other month. We also engage in fundraising and community assistance as needed. If you are interested in joining or have questions about SARNAK please contact us by phone, mail, or e-mail!
